• What can TotalBilge Epoxy Bilge Paint be used on?

  It may be applied to wood (including plywood), bare fiberglass, gelcoat, epoxy, and previously painted surfaces in good condition. It is not recommended for use on aluminum or steel.
• Can it be used as bottom paint, deck paint, or hull paint?

  It does not contain antifouling properties, and is not suitable as a bottom paint. Because it does not offer UV protection, exterior applications are not recommended, as sun exposure will cause it to fade. Its slick, gloss finish makes it particularly unsuitable as a deck paint.
• Can it be tinted?

  TotalBilge can be tinted with up to 20% Wet Edge Topside Paint. More than 20% can detract from TotalBilge’s performance. We do not recommend hardware store tints, as not all are compatible, and could result in poor adhesion and paint performance.
• Do I need to prime before using this paint?

  Using a primer like TotalProtect is only mandatory for use on metals, but may also be used on properly prepared wood and fiberglass if desired. TotalBilge may be applied over bare fiberglass
• How do you prep surfaces for application?

  Surfaces must be free of dust, wax, grease, amine blush, and water. Wipe the surface with an appropriate solvent (see detailed instructions). Sand (grit depends on surface), and remove all sanding residue with Special Brushing Thinner 100 or TotalBoat Dewaxer & Surface Prep or Spray Thinner 101.
• How do I apply TotalBilge?

  It can be brushed, rolled, or sprayed. TotalBilge should not require thinning on fiberglass or primed surfaces if brushing or rolling. However, you can add up to 10% TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100 to improve flow or extend the working time when painting in warm weather. A foam roller provides smooth results. If spraying, thin 10-20% with TotalBoat Spray Thinner 101. Allow it to dry thoroughly before overcoating or use.
• How many coats do I need to apply?

  We recommend applying 1-2 thin coats. Thick coats will trap solvents and prevent proper drying! Film thickness per coats should be no more than 3 mils wet.
• What is the coverage of this bilge paint?

  250-300 sq ft per gallon, 80-100 square feet per quart.
• How long does this paint take to dry?

  Dry times to touch and overcoat vary by temperature and humidity. For example, dry time to touch is 1.5 hours at 90ºF, 3 hours at 70ºF, and 6 hours at 50ºF. The dry time to overcoat is 8 hours at 90ºF, 12 hours at 70ºF, and 16 hours at 50ºF. High humidity and cool weather can result in extended dry times. For best results, paint in lower humidity and in temperatures between 50 and 90ºF.
