Our Inflatable Boat Paint contains as much copper as some of the most popular bottom paints on the market, never mind the few other inflatable coatings available. This helps repel an impressive array of underwater cling-ons, including barnacles and soft marine growth. It’s water-based, easy to use, coats evenly, dries fast, and cleans up easily with water. And when it’s dry, it won’t rub off on you, your deck, or your hull unless you drag the boat around. It’s better for you, your boat, and the environment.

Won’t crack, flake, or peel

The cured coating is strong and flexible enough to stay smooth all season long. Even when it’s time to deflate and roll it up, or if the tubes of your RIB soften during storage, there’s no cracking, flaking, or peeling.

Coating wears away gradually, protecting as it goes

Ablative formula provides constant protection, no matter how many times you put in and haul out your inflatable during the season. No matter if it’s moving or tied up just floating around. The ablative coating wears off continuously to reveal a whole new layer of scum and barnacle-killing biocide. And because the paint wears away, there’s nothing to scrape off next time you need to paint – just do a little light prep and scuffing, then recoat.

  • This bottom paint is formulated for use on the bottoms of inflatable boats made of hypalon, rubber, or pvc. It will also adhere to fiberglass and previously painted surfaces. Do not use on aluminum.
  • Yes. This paint may be applied to fiberglass (gelcoat) with excellent results. It is very similar to JD Select paint, but has added flexibility to accommodate the flex and rolling up of the inflatable tubes. For aluminum RIB applications, you would want to use a paint that does not have a copper biocide, or prime first with Aluminum Boat Barrier Coat over any aluminum surfaces prior to applying any antifouling.
  • Yes, it is compatible with other common bottom paints (in good condition) used for this application. Note: do not apply over tin, vinyl, or Teflon bottom paints.
  • No, this paint features a soft ablative finish with copper biocide, contains no UV inhibitors, and is not designed for topside or interior finish applications. It will not repair worn surfaces.
  • No, it is intended to prevent hard and soft fouling growth at and below the waterline.
  • The coverage for the Inflatable Boat Paint is 125 sq. ft. per quart. One quart is enough for two coats on an 8-10 ft. inflatable boat.
  • Surface prep depends on the material you are painting. For rubberized fabrics, including hypalon and pvc, lightly scrub the surface with a bronze wool pad and Thinner 200 (Not Thinner 100). Wipe off residue and let dry completely before painting. Over existing paints, assess the condition. If the existing paint is in good condition, sand with 80 grit sandpaper, wipe with TotalBoat Dewaxer Surface Prep, then paint. Painting fiberglass gelcoat finishes requires a thorough wiping with Dewaxer Surface Prep, followed sanding and rinsing with fresh water before painting.
  • No, although some initial minor rub off may occur if it is not 100% dry.
  • Thinning is not recommended.
  • We recommend 1-2 coats, with an additional coat at the waterline for maximum fouling protection.

The self-cleaning nature of this coating is most effective when the boat is used periodically. Vessels painted with Inflatable Boat Paint should not be scrubbed or cleaned for the first six months in the water, and at intervals of not less than three months thereafter.
