TotalBoat ThickSet makes it easy to get great results — even if you’ve never used epoxy before. Just measure carefully, stir thoroughly, and pour slowly onto your prepared surface or into your prepared mold. The key is step pouring with multiple layers. This means that when the previous layer has cooled but is soft enough to indent with your fingernail, pour the next layer directly on top.
- Deep pour resin is the best way to pour thicker layers of epoxy. Pour single layers up to 1/2" for larger pours; 1" for smaller pours. Water-clear, high-gloss, low-viscosity.

Should I use TotalBoat ThickSet or ThickSet Fathom epoxy for my project – what’s the difference?
TotalBoat ThickSet and ThickSet Fathom epoxies are both crystal clear resin systems that can be poured deeper than traditional epoxy, and both are ideal for castings, river tables, and slab pours, but the main question is – how deep do you want to go? If it’s really deep, you want ThickSet Fathom because you can pour it in thicker single layers than ThickSet. The table below contains more information to help you decide which ThickSet formula is right for your project.

- Application Temperature/RH: 65°F-80°F, relative humidity 0-60%. Warm conditions are critical for success.
- IMPORTANT! Environmental conditions are extremely important to the quality of the cure, and to achieving the best clarity and surface finish. Depending on the overall mass of epoxy being poured at a single time, the depth that it is poured, and the ambient temperature, excessive heat may build up from the reaction, causing potential yellowing, cracks, or other shrinkage. Helping to dissipate the heat may help promote the best results. For the epoxy to cure fully, the ambient temperature must be between 65°F and 80°F. When pouring for larger projects, such as slabs or tables, do not exceed a pour depth of ½” to 1″ to prevent yellowing or excessive heat from the cure.
- Seal Coat Application: Brush. When applying to wood or porous surfaces, be sure to apply a very thin skim coat of epoxy to seal the surface, and allow it to cure before applying more epoxy.
- Maximum Pour Depth per Layer (Flood Coat Application): 1/2" for river pours, slab pours; 1" for smaller castings using less than 16 oz. of epoxy. Pour on and spread with an epoxy spreader.
- Pot Life @ 77°F: 10-15 minutes
- Working Time @ 77°F: 45-60 minutes, depending on mixing mass, material temperature, ambient temperature, mixing time, mixing speed, application speed, & casting or coating thickness.

Should I Use TotalBoat ThickSet or TableTop Epoxy?
Both of these epoxies give you beautiful results for crystal-clear, liquid glass like coating, casting, embedding, or encapsulating projects. However, TotalBoat TableTop Epoxy is more of a ‘coating’ epoxy, and TotalBoat ThickSet is more of a ‘casting’ epoxy designed for deep pours.
ThickSet requires fewer pours to achieve a final thickness of 1/2″ and gives a longer working time, while Table Top epoxy resin has a faster cure time for coating and is meant for shallow-depth embedding projects. -
Can I thin ThickSet Deep Pour Epoxy?
No, you should not thin epoxy, as this will negatively affect cure and characteristics. -
Does ThickSet dry clear?
Yes, it dries to a liquid glass-like clear finish. However, it can be tinted with epoxy-safe coloring agents, like Mica Powder, if desired. -
Is this clear casting resin food safe?
Yes. The cured epoxy surface is BPA-free, making it safer for objects coming into contact with food. -
What else should I know before using this deep pour epoxy?

This resin is not designed for continuous UV exposure. If the item will be used outdoors, the cured surface must be coated with a UV-resistant finish (like clear varnish) to prevent yellowing and fogging. -

The tack-free time is 4-8 hours for 1/2″ – 1″ pours at 77°F, and it will be fully cured after 5-7 days at 77°F. -
Can I place hot items on it once the clear casting epoxy is cured? How heat resistant is it?
We recommend you avoid placing items hotter than 125°F on the cured surface. This is common to most room temperature-cured epoxy systems. -
